What Does Momofuku Chili Crunch Taste Like?

Simple – It’s crunchy and it’s spicy. There’s savory and smoky elements to it. Also if you’re a fan of garlic & shallots, there’s a good amount in there.

It’s also definitely one that’s worth experimenting with. Scroll down to see what you can pair it with.

The interesting thing about the bottle we received is that it felt extremely spicy for a ‘regular’ bottle.

I did email them to ask if there was a case of a mix up but I was assured that it wasn’t the case.

Thank you for reaching out and your interest in our products!

I’m so sorry to hear our Extra Spicy Chili Crunch wasn’t at all what you thought. Our production and fulfillment team are very careful when labeling and shipping out products to our customers. Our Chili Crunch is a high demand product so I doubt any mix-up/ mislabeling took place in this matter. We wouldn’t be able to confirm but I’d be happy to inform our team regarding this. We greatly appreciate your feedback!

Momofuku Chili Crunch Uses

There are 3 types of chilis used in this chili crunch.

  • Pulla – fruity notes
  • Chili de Arbol – nutty smokiness
  • Chile Japones – lingering spiciness

The Momofuku site recommends putting it on:

  • Eggs
  • Avocado toast
  • Ice Cream
  • French Fries
  • Sandwiches

But after our taste test and using it on various items, the sweetness to it seems to stand out the most.

This chili crunch is best suited for dishes that are already on the sweeter side:

  • Tomatoes
  • Pasta / Spaghetti (with tomatoes)
  • Sweeter Rice or Noodle Dishes
  • Tofu

There’s Not Much to Say About the Truffle…

If you’re a fan of truffle you may like it because the truffle part does stand out.

It’s not as versatile as the other two.

If you’re adventurous AND you’re okay with potentially being disappointed paying $20 and not liking it, then this one is for you.

Update: After a year, the truffle part no longer stands out. It almost tastes like a ‘regular’ chili crunch.

How Spicy is Momofuku Chili Crunch?

The spicy version is moderately spicy. If you’re used to eating spicy food regularly, it should be no problem for you.

We’d say a 6/10. Good spice without sacrificing taste.

The Extra Spicy (which was the regular for us), was much higher on the spice level. More like an 8/10 in terms of spice level.

Is Momofuku Chili Crunch Good?

Yes, Momofuku Chili Crunch is good.

Most people will like its taste as it is crunchy and spicy with savory and smoky elements, and a good amount of garlic and shallots.

It is versatile and can be used on a variety of dishes, especially those with a sweeter taste. The spice level is moderately spicy and rated as a 6/10, with the extra spicy version being spicier at 8/10.
